We’re seeking a highly motivated NLP Application Engineer (Contract) to join our growing team. You’ll work directly with our CEO, CTO, product, and development teams to deliver impactful and scalable data products.

This position will be based in our Rotterdam office located at the Erasmus University campus, with a hybrid working style possible.

Responsibilities

Leverage your expertise in NLP to apply Arboretica’s proprietary algorithms to various business and social challenges.
Prototype and rapidly test applications based on user feedback.
Collaborate on developing the user interface (UI) for the LLM application and contribute to building data pipelines.
Analyze and evaluate the accuracy of results from various algorithms.
Conduct research to support ongoing algorithm and product development.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field (or Bachelor’s degree with significant experience).
Extensive experience in Python programming and the Jupyter Notebook/Lab environment.
In-depth understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques for tasks like text cleaning, tokenization, translation, sentiment analysis, and advanced areas like dialogue systems or question answering.
Proven experience building web applications using a Python framework like Django or Flask.
Expertise in data wrangling, with the ability to query, clean, and manipulate complex datasets using Python for analysis.
Demonstrated passion for data exploration and a strong interest in interpreting public data for insights.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills: Ability to explain technical concepts and analysis results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Can translate business objectives into actionable data analysis plans.
Experience with APIs, databases, and version control systems (e.g., Git).
Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and their capabilities (experience with specific LLM frameworks a plus).
A fast learner and adaptable professional who thrives in dynamic environments.
Team player with a strong independent work ethic, able to collaborate effectively and manage tasks autonomously.
Fluency in English (written and oral communication).
Multilingual skills are a plus.
